Material

8 questions
1.1

What is Blai Panel?

A sheet material we make from plastic waste in our own presses. 1225 × 1225 mm, 8–20 mm thick. For furniture, cladding and interior applications.
1.2

What is it made from?

HDPE and LDPE. The feedstock is mostly post-industrial plastic waste, with a share of post-consumer. We use no additives or binders.
1.3

Is it really 100% recycled?

Yes. The entire panel is recycled thermoplastic. It is not a composite and not wood-based.
1.4

Are color and pattern consistent between batches?

The color character is consistent; the pattern is not. Because the mix is made by hand, every panel has its own distribution. For panels that will sit side by side in the same project, we recommend ordering them in a single batch.
1.5

How does the surface change over time?

No structural change is expected in normal use. Long exposure to direct sunlight may lighten the color slightly over the years.
1.6

How does it resist water, chemicals and stains?

It does not absorb water and is not affected by humidity. Its chemical resistance is high; most cleaning products and paints leave no mark on the surface.
1.7

Can it be used outdoors?

HDPE is suitable for outdoor use. Tell us the conditions your project will be exposed to and we will come back with a thickness and detailing recommendation.
1.8

Is it safe for human contact?

The Classics and Karma series were tested under EN 71-3 (safety of toys) and passed the migration tests. The Translucent and Wave series are outside the scope of this test.

Technical & Specification

5 questions
2.1

How does it behave in a fire?

HDPE is a material assessed under Euroclass E in fire classification. For projects with a specification requirement, write to us and we will assess it for your project.
2.2

What temperatures can it withstand?

About 80 °C in continuous use. 110–120 °C for short-term exposure.
2.3

How much does it expand with heat?

HDPE’s thermal expansion is markedly higher than that of wood and metals: roughly 0.15–0.20 mm per meter for every 1 °C of temperature difference. In practice, a 1225 mm panel moves 6–7 mm across a 30 °C seasonal swing. Do not clamp panels rigidly; leave expansion gaps at joints and let screws float in slotted holes. Ask us for help with detailing.
2.4

How is it fixed? Can adhesive be used?

We recommend mechanical fixing: screws, concealed fasteners, frames. We also have adhesive solutions and can discuss them for your project — but they are not our first recommendation, because a joint that can be taken apart lets the panel be recycled at the end of its life.
2.5

Which technical documents do you provide?

Technical data sheet, EN 71-3 test report, Declaration of Conformity and CNC cutting file. We send them on request.
03

Fabrication

5 questions
3.1

How is it worked?

It is cut, routed and drilled with standard woodworking equipment. It is suitable for CNC cutting.
3.2

How are the edges finished?

The edge can be used as it comes off the router; it needs no further treatment. Sanding can give a matte texture, but we don’t recommend it: sanding releases microplastics and runs against the reason the material exists.
3.3

Can it be heat-formed?

Yes, as it is a thermoplastic. Ask us about curved applications.
3.4

How do I clean and care for it?

A damp cloth and a neutral cleaner are enough. No abrasive products or solvents are needed.
3.5

Can surface scratches be repaired?

Surface marks can be reduced with heat. Sanding is also an option, but we don’t recommend it because of microplastics. Scratches forming over time are in the nature of the material; the surface gains character as it ages.
04

Ordering

5 questions
4.1

Do you make panels to size?

The panel size is 1225 × 1225 mm; this is also the largest size we can produce. We CNC-cut and deliver any size within it. Larger surfaces are solved with a joint detail — send us your project for a joining proposal.
4.2

Is there a minimum order?

We start from 8 panels. It can vary with color and thickness, so send us your project size and we’ll give you a clear answer.
4.3

What is the lead time?

It depends on the project scope and our production load at the time. Tell us your deadline and we’ll give you a realistic date.
4.4

How can I see a sample?

The 8-piece sample kit can be ordered from the shop. If your project scope is already defined, write to us directly.
4.5

Do you ship to Europe?

Yes. Write to us for shipping terms.
05

Circularity

3 questions
5.1

What is its environmental impact?

Per standard 12 mm panel: 17.8 kg of plastic waste, 330 kWh of energy saved, 23.5 kg of CO₂ saved. The figures are based on APR industry data; the calculation method and scope limits are on the Material Impact page.
5.2

What happens at the end of its life?

We collect it through our take-back program and bring it back into production as new panels. For corporate clients we provide documentation that can be used in ESG reporting.
5.3

How many times can it be recycled?

HDPE and LDPE can be reprocessed many times. Each cycle brings some loss of properties; we balance this through the blend ratio.
